"Damages" has become my new favorite TV series recently, other than "House, MD" and "Family Guy".
There are many reasons why I love this series. Glen Close and her brilliant performance as Patty Hewes, the strong script and the style of the whole series which resembles a movie and not merely a TV series, great cinematography and good usage of different filters to show different timelines, moving between “the past” and “the present” in a way that you wish there could be another way to prevent what has happened and you already know it, etc. It’s not perfect though, as some of the actors do not have the same level as some of the others, but still they have very high levels of acting, which is not very usual in TV.
One of the issues which comes up frequently in this story is "trust". People trust the wrong ones, don’t know whom to trust, and being trustworthy or not is an important case, resulting in life and death.
The thing is it often has a high impact in our lives too. I mean one doesn’t need to be trapped in a lawsuit to know how important it is to have somebody to trust. And it’s not just trust as in "not telling my secret to somebody else", it’s having trust in one’s decisions, in friendship, in not lying and being lied to. Somebody whom you can "put yourselves in their hands" as Ray Fiske said, before he killed himself.
For some reason, finding such a person, is not an easy task. I believe if any of us can find a handful of trustworthy people in our lives, we should consider ourselves blessed.
On the other hand, there is an important question: how trustworthy we are? This one is one of those questions that when you are alone with yourself, at night before going to sleep, or in the mirror when you can see inside your soul through the reflection of your eyes, can answer to it, frankly, really, honestly.
It’s not easy being trustworthy and having somebody to trust in completely. If one has both, it’s a great prosperity…

Yes! This is very important whether we want to trust someone or want to be trusted; in both awareness is a key element I think, many times trust comes when we know someone so well and based on image we get from that perosn, we can see him/her as a reliable one, having such a person for life and its feeling is just fantastic. On the other hand, sometimes we "think" we are trustworthy while the truth may be not so much impressive about us as we don't know our true selves really and we are not that reliable as we think. Looking at the mirror and thinking through deeply may work for those who are or want to be honest with themselves but knowing others and not making any mistake about them-if we are not enough lucky- may come after facing many trials and errors and the lessons that one takes on each of them leads him/her to become an experienced one and then to know and to trust correctly.
loooooooooooooong comment :D
Isn't trust everything in any relationship? and at the same time like any other value I think there are different levels to it. I personally don't trust others (friends and family) easily. and honesty I don't know how trustworthy I am to them.
You know it is funny, in ORKUT, there is three little icons, SEXY, COOL and Trusty that you can evaluate your friends with giving them points. I read your pots and I just realized I never checked to see how trusty I am!?!
I haven't seen Damages, but I have seen House MD and Family Guy, I love animation.
@Behi,
Being honest with oneself and also learning from the experiences in the whole process of trial-and-error in trusting others, might help one to know whom to trust and be a trustworthy person, but unfortunately I always think there is also a factor of "luck" present, meaning how lucky you are to have a couple of such people present in your life...
BTW, looooooong comments mean we are discussing a matter, even though cybernatically, and I love them :)
@ Tameshk,
The same here. I am very sensitive about trust and slightest sign of not being 100% trustworthy repels me drastically. About how trustworthy I am, in some ways, I am (and those who know me are) confident in myself as a trustworthy person. In a way that sometimes it bothers some people, you know!
And I like animation as well, but this Family guy, I really like their smart sense of humor.
Dear Nava,
I don't watch TV other than "Treehouse"- :):):)-, Anderson Cooper 360 and John Stewart/ Colbert report...So I don't have any understanding for the show that you described...
OH but do I know about TRUST and how difficult it is to establish it??!!! Oh God!
I think the definition of trust is different for different people. This is why we can easily see people that do "trust" many so called "friends" and then we see people that can not find even one person to "trust" ....
As usual everything is perception...
Either way, I agree with you. It is truly a blessing to be able to trust someone, especially with your soul!
Good to hear from you again…
